Introducing me

Hello everyone from North Carolina!!!!  I have tried and tried to post all weekend from home but cannot for some reason.  So here goes.....

My name is Pam. I am 37 years old.  I have a wonderful little boy who is 6.  I am his den mother in Cub Scouts and have so much fun doing that.  I am separated, waiting on a divorce.  Yes, I know; but I have the will/desire/drive to do this.  My mother (an angel from above) is my support partner.  She went through this whole process with my dad.  He was approved for surgery on February 16, 2007 and died the next day from a massive heart attack.  He was a diabetic and this (surgery) was his only means of improving his quality of life.

I had a complete hysterectomy at age 32 because of severe endometriosis and ovarian cysts (the size of grapefruits from one ovary to the other all tangled together).   I also have Graves Disease (a autoimmune thyroid disorder) that is under control.  I do take synthetic hormomes but losing weight for me has been a huge battle!!!

I am still awaiting final approval from my insurance but the have a tentative date of December 12.  I am sooo sooo sooo excited.  I can't wait to feel better, be more active, do things I can't right now!

I have thus far loved reading all you guys posts!  I only hope you guys welcome me in as you have many others.

Anyway, I am sure I will think of more later, but for now Have a great day!

Pam

Hey Pam!
Welcome to the board. I just started posting here, even though I had my surgery almost a year ago. I know how you feel with your dad. My dad passed away in October 2007 of a massive heartattack also. He was onlu 48. He was very obese and had major health problems. I had my gastric bypass the next month.
Congrats on your journey, you wont be disapointed! My surgeon was Dr. Cook as well. He is a sweetheart and the best surgeon you could ever ask for!
Well, if you have any questions, we are always here for you! Hope to hear more from you soon!

Hello Pam
Welcome to the forum.  I absolutely love this site.  The support groups are alot of fun too.  I go to the one in Greenville.  It is really nice putting a face with the name you always chat with.  I have made so many friends since starting this journey last year.  I know you will do the same.  Keep us all posted and I look forward to getting to know you.  Sincerely,  Donna

Hi Pam from Pam in Charlotte!!  Welcome to the greatest forum EVER!!  You will get lots of support here. These people are very wise and willing to answer any questions you may have.
I'm waiting on all my paperwork to be completed and insurance approval. I will be having
VSG surgery hopefully in the next few months. I'm so happy for you that you've made this
decision for a new life instead of waiting until your old like me lol! My three little grandsons
certainly did help in my decision!
Good luck with your surgery and keep up posted!
Pam

WELCOME!!!! You have come to an amazing support group here on the NC Forums!!! Everyone is so POSITIVE and HELPFUL!! Not only are they friends, but almost like family!!! CONGRATULATIONS on the begining of your new journey! Get ready for the ride of your life!!! OH is a wonderful website, it is a website that has inspired me, just as I was in the research process!! Nothing can be more inspiring that seeing all the successful before & afters and reading such amazing stories!!!
BUT BEWARE there are parts of OH that are SOOO negative and can really bring a person down, and prove the ignorance of grown adults!!!  There are adults on this site that act like obnoxious children and I do warn you to STAY AWAY from the RANTS & RAVES board!!! Stay where the positivity is and that is right here with your fellow North Cackalackian's :)
Can't wait to start reading your success stories!! Do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have, NO QUESTION is a stupid question!! We are all here for you!!!

Pam,  I know we've been in touch before this but I've learned more about you via this post!    The Hickory forum is awesome but this one is much more active and casts a larger net to include all of our NC friends.

I am so sorry to hear about your impending divorce and the passing or your father, but am very happy that you have your mother to be your support.  I bet she is your angel, indeed!  I understand you know first-hand how important surgical weight-loss intervention can be.  I'm thankful you are doing this for yourself *now,* not later!

I also had a complete hysterectomy at 32 for severe endometriosis and just started on thyroid medication in July.  It helped clear a fog, but hasn't made the weight fall off like I was hoping it would!  lol  Can't remember if I've told you but I'm married (22 years) and have four kiddos, daughters ages 15 & 20, and sons ages 9 & 19 (edited to correct oldest son's age...oops!).  We moved to the mtns from Indiana in 2002 and love it here!

Hope you hear good news from your insurance company very soon.  I will be having surgery with Dr. Cook this Friday...have to be at Frye at 5:30 a.m.  You're time will be here before you know it!

Please consider coming to support group.  I have been attending the one that is announced on the Hickory forum that is held on the third Thursday of each month...the next one is in January.  There is also another one held on the first Monday of each month, at Frye I believe.   I'm hoping to begin attending that one also in January (or December if they have it and I'm up to it).  The support group has honestly been just stupendous and I am so thankful I've chose to attend.
